PSYCHOLOGY SERVICE
Rapid Response
Lighthouse Psychology provide a rapid access outpatient service to children, adolescents and their families. The key to a swift recovery is effective and appropriate treatment when it is needed without delay.
Lighthouse Psychology offer a full psychological assessment and treatment service accessed by parent or through GP referral. A report, diagnosis and treatment plan is provided at the time of the assessment and the child or adolescent entered into treatment/therapy if this is appropriate.
The young person will meet with their therapist once or twice weekly dependent on individual need. Parents also have the option of telephone support between sessions. The clinical process closely monitors the individual throughout treatment. The therapeutic routine provides a safe environment and introduces the child to a range of techniques and skills. This process promotes an increasing ability to manage their emotions and behaviours more effectively.
What to Expect
A major component of the program is supportive behavioural intervention, crisis management and the overall reduction of symptoms.
Parents are involved fully in each child’s treatment. It is usual for some family ‘think tank’ sessions to take place depending on the nature of the problem. The goal in family sessions is to help the parents implement strategies between sessions and take an active part in their child’s recovery from crisis.
Each child or adolescent who has undertaken a program of therapy is encouraged to attend one small group session per week which helps the child practice the skills and techniques learnt in the one-to-one sessions through a range of activities.
